WILL THE CITY OR COUNTY ANIMAL SERVICE HELP ME WITH A SKUNK ISSUE?

Wildlife animals may appear cute and cuddly, but they are far from that. These animals are wild creatures that live in the wild and do not belong on our properties. Different wild animals wander around properties in search of food, water, and shelter. The majority of the time, they leave after scouting the area, but if they do find something attractive, they may hang around for some time. These animals have an intricate ecosystem that should not be tampered with except if required. If the wildlife roaming around your area poses no threat to your family and property, then it is best to let them be. Skunks are one of those animals that can disrupt your daily routine with their invasive presence. Not only do they stink, but they also burrow under buildings in search of their next meal. The fact that skunks are predominantly nocturnal makes it a lot harder to spot them.

Signs of Skunks on Your Property
Skunks, like other wildlife pests, have unique traits and characteristics. They leave not so subtle signs wherever they set up residence. If you know what signs to look out for, you can easily identify skunks invading your residence.

· Stench
Apart from the trademark black and white appearance, the skunk's smell is another key distinguishable feature. The skunk's spray can reach a reasonable distance from the point of release, and the smell is extremely unpleasant. If your surroundings has a foul odor, then it is safe to say that a skunk is lurking nearby.

· Burrows
Skunk burrows are small, shallow holes with loose soil surrounding it. A skunk's burrow resembles a squirrel's burrow in terms of size, but skunk burrows have that trademark loose soil ring surrounding the entrance.

· Droppings
If you have cats as pets, then identifying a skunk's dropping will be relatively easy. Skunk droppings resembles that of a cat. The only difference is that the skunk's droppings contains tons of undigested seeds, insects, berries, and feathers, while the cat's droppings is purely digested food.

· Sightings
This has to be the most obvious sign out there. If you see skunks lurking around your environment or on your property, it is a clear sign that they have taken residence close by.

Skunks are naturally nocturnal, so seeing one during the day is a sign that it may have rabies. If so, you need to proceed with caution.

City or County Animal Control Services and Skunks
Once upon a time, the majority of city and county animal control services handled all sorts of control services. But with the recent development, from governmental policies to urbanization, they no longer offer all sorts of animal control services.

Nowadays, the city or county animal service closest to you will not help you with any skunk issue. This is because, being a government funded service provider, their tasks no longer involve tackling certain animal pests. The only way that the city or county animal service would respond to your skunk call is if the situation is on the verge of escalating to a greater public issue.

This means that the majority of city and county animal services will only respond to certain situations relating to skunks, like rabies, for example.

Therefore, as a homeowner, if you find yourself in a situation where skunks are wreaking havoc on your property, you will have to handle the situation personally. However, you can no doubt employ wildlife removal experts to help you relocate any skunk found on or around your property. These wildlife removal experts can come in, de-escalate the situation, and relocate the skunk without getting sprayed with a toxic odor.
